A noble homage to Chateau de Vianden Jan 07, 2013
Simply Vianden Castle in English, this is truly a heritage to appreciate and explore. From Luxembourg City's Gare Central Station, ride any train going to Ettelbruck. The journey is about 40 minutes or less. During this time you may rest comfortably in the elegant car, appreciating the beauty of the countryside. When you have reached the final destination, go to the bus terminal on the southern part of the station and ride bus 570. Alert the driver that you are heading for the Vianden Castle (stop is near a river).

From there you have to walk up towards the castle, which might take 10-15 minutes depending on the manner of your walk. You will encounter souvenir shops on the way.

The castle has three levels and twenty-two sections, of which the knight’s study, Banqueting Hall and Genealogy Hall are most interesting. The archaeological crypt, well and chapel are also not to be missed. Being a former residence of local aristocrats, the place can boast of royal objects, relics and furniture. The view from its balconies especially on the third level is very beautiful that we took time before going down.Clearly outer appearance isn't directly proportional to what’s inside.

When you go out of the ‘Taverna’ – entry point to the interiors – visit next the ‘Keller’, or the Large Cellar. One can go down but not further as it is off limits.

Outside, explore more of the stronghold and see the black tower(which is actually cream in color). Visitors aren't allowed inside the tower however.

Given its disposition, I would say that the entire castle is a perfect setting for an adventurous fairy-tale romance. Not bad for 6 Euros entrance fee. More information about the place can be found at

Castle Vianden May 06, 2010
On our last day we decided to visit the Castle of Vianden as we past it so many times on the outside we really wanted to know what the inside looked like.

You start the tour downstairs and walk through different area’s filled with knight like stuff, like the different type of knight close and wapons they used way back then. People also dig’d up old utensils and they are displayed. A variety of pictures lets you see how the Castle got as big as it is today,.

Upstairs you can go outside and have a great view on the city of Vianden. Also upstairs you will find some decorating from way back. There is also a room filled with pictures of al the famous people who visited the castle. Like our queen Beatrix and movie star Patrick Swayze.

It will cost you €6.- to enter the Castle.
