Defense of the city Mar 18, 2017
Sitting right at the bottom end of the Paseo Marti where it joins the Malecon is this small Castillo. One of the first lines of defence of the city the castle was built from 1589 during 11 years and is directly across the mouth of the river from El Morro. Both were constructed by the same Italian engineer Antonelli. Apparently most of the artifacts that were found during renovation of the outer walls and moat, have now been removed because of the danger of flooding during hurricane season.

Times of opening are given as 10h00 until 18h00 Wed - Sun without closing, but when we got there at 12h15 were told "closed" and as it was a Sunday never got the chance to go back.
