Impressive, must-see site Dec 02, 2010
The castle dates from the times that the Moors occupied Lisbon, and serves as one of the most popular tourist sites in Lisbon. The reputation is well deserved, as the castle offers a great historical insight and views of Lisbon.

The site consists of the castle itself and an archaeological museum which is also contained within. The old medieval citadel is particularly impressive. Dating from the eleventh century, it becomes obvious to see how the Moors were keen to protect themselves from constant threats. The views from the top are amazing and are worth going for that reason alone on a sunny day. The museum houses some wonderful tiles, coins and artefacts from as early as the eleventh century.

Entrance fee is 7 Euros and discounts are available for certain groups such as the elderly and students.

If you are visiting Lisbon, this site is definitely worth seeing.
