Castilla-La Mancha is a dry and dusty land, but is hardly barren of cultural or historical significance. This area lying largely to the south of Madrid was part of the medieval kingdom of Castile ("Castilla"), which took its name from the castles ("castillos") which sprouted up here along the Christian-Muslim frontier. One of the best representatives of this era of Spanish history is Toledo, where monuments to the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish faiths sit alongside one another.

La Mancha, on the other hand, fueled the imagination of Miguel de Cervantes when he wrote Spain's most famous literary work, Don Quijote. The windmills which the noble "Man from La Mancha" believed were giants can still be seen in the Manchego landscape.

When I was young, I was given a book as a present from my teacher after I won a story telling competition. The book entitled “Tales of Alhambra” by Washington Irving. I was 12yrs at that time. I was so fascinated with the story telling. Written in 1831, this book tells tales of romance, greed, battles and hidden treasure, to summarize a little. It has a description of Granada and the beautiful Moorish castle, The Alhambra; it is just similar to a travelogue. This vision of a beautiful arc...
