Castello Medioevale Udine Reviews
Historic building and great art Apr 02, 2011
Originally a medieval castle that dates from the thirteenth century, the building now serves as a great art museum.
The paintings and sculpture on show here are remarkable. Great medieval paintings from various churches are on show here, as well as “more modern works” by Caravaggio. Although I must admit that if I wasn’t aware that the artist painted it, it would be nothing more than a two second glance. If you are a great fan of medieval Christian art though, this is definitely the place to come to. The collection is very impressive and I have rarely seen better ones in other museums.
Apart from the art museum itself, I recommend that you go around the back of the castle for the views. They are really inspiring! You can also see some stonework and fragments near the back entrance too.
A very worthy “castle” visit for the art!
