Romantic, Authentic Italian Overlooking the Canals Jun 26, 2008
This restaurant came highly recommended by a flight attendant who was kind enough to give us his inside track on what to do and see in Amsterdam. This is the best Italian restaurant in Amsterdam! We were so impressed during our first visit that we had to return at least once more before we left. Reservations are recommended, but we did not have any the first evening we went and were incredibly lucky to be seated at a table upstairs right in front of the windows at the center table. The second time we return we requested the same area again (still without a reservation) and our request was granted (again, I think we were lucky). The view of the canal and all of the bridges is excellent. This restaurant, at least the area in which we were seated lends itself to romance. The service is prompt and the mostly Italian waitstaff are friendly. Although, if you're an English only speaker there might be some communications problems. I believe that you can always request a waiter that speaks better English if you don't speak Dutch or Italian. The food is excellent! I wasn't sure how to classify the expense of the food exactly. I have found that what Europeans consider an expensive dinner can sometimes just be an average cost to Americans. This restaurant is less expensive than a comprable Italian restaurant in the US. No entree is over $30USD, so I consider it a very good value. One of the most memorable dining experiences we had while in Amsterdam, I recommend this place highly!
