Going native dining in Ponta Delgada Feb 07, 2017
N37°44,334' W25°40,219' Casa de Pasto Tavares restaurant is for local people having a modest and inexpensive dinner. Tourists are escorted to the Mexican restaurant Arriba on the second floor. But not us. We wanted to have a local dinner in August 2016, and more local you cannot get with Filipe, the owner. On our next visit to Philipe, the restaurant was closed for the summer holiday, because there were only tourists in town.

To overcome the language barrier with Philipe, no foreign language speaking staff member or foreign language menu available, the chef showed some fresh fish and meat dishes and we nodded. We went for the bife de vaca for €8.50 and boca megra for €8.50 with salad on the site. Although the fish had many bones, it tasted very well. De beef dish was good too and we enjoyed a bottle of local Terras de Lave white wine.

Casa de Pasto Tavares offers very good cooking for inexpensive prices in a cantina like interior. More local you cannot get.
