Hostel Casa Kessler Nov 05, 2016
Hostel Casa Kessler is marketed as a boutique hostel place, and that is the truth in the way…

It is fairly small place with lots of details and “designer” elements all over. It is located around 6 blocks from Plaza Catalunya, and a bit longer to Sagrada Familia, so it is central. To get there from the airport, you can take airport buses that stop at the Plaza C. or take metro to one of the stations close to Diagonal Avenue (which is around 4 blocks away). The area is full of restaurants and on one of the walking streets.

Outside door is MONUMENTAL, precious, surreal… finally the size of the door that I can get through (when they open it all the way), and you get in by buzzing the buzzer and smiling in the camera. Hostel is on the first, or better ½ floor, right next to the old school elevator. Sometimes there is a person in some kind of security area on the bottom floor, but I did not quite understand that concept.

So, the nice part about the hostel is large balcony that is made into living space with many “sofas” chairs, tables and covered by umbrellas. Inside living space is really nice too, stylized furniture and huge TV that no one ever turns on heheheh (it must be that Barcelona has to offer more visuals than TV).

The thing is that everything looks nice, but most of the things are not functional… For example, lockers don’t have knobs to open them… So you put the key and struggle. Finding the trash cans in the kitchen took 20 min of my life. They were hidden in smaller containers in some drawers… Showers are super small so you can’t even turn inside, and they are positioned right next to the door that leads to the toilet so in order to dress up you need to get out of the shower in the front of the all people that are entering the restroom. Now, I don’t care if I am naked in the front of anyone, but it is simply uncomfortable and not well designed.

Staff is super nice. Really, the biggest value are this nice boys and girls that are super friendly and talkative. There is no breakfast included and kitchen do not have stove to cook on. On the other hand it looks good and it is VERY modern hahahhah. Coffee and tea are always available.

Dorm room is very clean and pretty spacious. I was on the top bunk bed and it was a bit harder to climb up because the beds are custom made and very high. Going up was not the problem, but going down is a bit of an issue, especially in the morning.

Outside terrace is very nice to relax at. I hang out with few people till late nights at that terrace, with the “romantic” candles around and our voices lowered in loughs. Hostel also rents some bikes, you can chose from normal or electric bikes.
