House of Giovanni Boniforte da Concorezzo Jul 14, 2011
This house dominating the principal street of Mantua is located very close to the Piazza delle Erbe and near the fourteenth-century Torre del Salaro; built in 1455 by a rich merchant of luxury goods,it is one of city's most remarkable buildings.

The facade built with late Gothic marble and terracotta is characterized by its symetry:four columns of Verona marble support an entablure with floral carvings and luxury merchandise.A wide variety of items are also reproduced on the architrave above the windows.

The facade has two terracotta strips with small multi-lobate arches and twisted columns. The owner consigned his shop to posterity by adding writings in Latin and Mantuan vernacular and the construction's date.

The original blue and gold polychrome found during recent restoration work embellished the building.
