Comfort and fabulous views Apr 15, 2013
This is not an easy place to find without detailed map instructions. If you get to the sign for Citalsol beyond Almunecar, from Malaga, continue to the next roundabout through a tunnel and then follow the Citasol sign as you come back. Then keep going up - keeping to your right when you reach a map on the wall. When you meet another road turn left downhill and almost immediately right. You are nearly there but you will need to look out for B5, up about 18 steps. You are on a private complex called Fuentes de Almunecar - but don't try to site it on a map or you will probably get somewhere else nearer to Almunecar. There is nowhere to eat out nor to shop within easy walking distance.

There is a shared pool very close along the street, which was empty when we were there (April) and another up an inordinate number of steps which has quite stringent rules.

OK - so why the high rating? First it is spacious with ample shower, toilet and other accommodation for 8 people. Next it is very well equipped with all mod cons (except a kettle) The views from the terraces at front and back are terrific. It is very peaceful at night.

The there is its position. Obviously it needs a car but, given that, the beaches of Velilla and eating places are only a few minutes away. Farther afield but not too far in a car is Nerja - and it's a very picturesque run, which has something to appeal to all age groups. Farther, but within easy 'day out' distance is Granada. (If you want to visit the Alhambra, book well in advance.)

Last but by no means least come the owner (in Madrid) and the lady who lets visitors in. We booked initially for October but the Council gave notice during the very time we were booking that they would be carrying out some work in the area that would cause problems. Miguel gave us the choice of our money back or two free days added to our booking if we wanted to transfer to another time.

When we were on our way the first night, we had a puncture - only to discover that we had no spare wheel! We did not arrive until well after midnight and the lady and her husband had been several hours waiting. Very kindly they took three of us into the town to bring back sandwiches from the petrol station for everybody.
