Casa Arnel Oaxaca Reviews
Gorgeous hotel with lush gardens Feb 06, 2010
Located about a 15 minute walk from the zocalo in the center of town, Casa Arnel is one of the coolest hotels in the city of Oaxaca. It's in a quiet neighborhood away from the bustle of downtown, the interior courtyard gardens are amazing, the rooftop terrace is incredible, and the family that runs it is as welcoming and friendly as you'll find anywhere. They invited all their guests to take part in their Candelaria celebration at the beginning of February when I was there, which is the last day of the Christmas holidays they celebrate.
There are a wide variety of very interesting travelers you meet here, many of whom are repeat visitors, and often very knowledgeable about Oaxaca. The family can arrange tours of Monte Alban and other cultural highlights of the area, and the guide Raul they use is undoubtedly the best guide in Oaxaca. He is incredibly well educated and informed on details of religious history, Mexican history, and art history.
The single beds in some of the rooms are a little firm for my liking would be my only complaint at all, but the suite 12-A is the room to shoot for if you can get it. Honeymooners often go for it, and it stands out head and shoulders above the others.
The breakfasts are wonderful, and the delicious oatmeal is a must (along with everything else). Casa Arnel also has parking if you have your own car, which many of the hotels right downtown either don't have or charge you dearly for. Pretty much THE place to stay in Oaxaca if you want to immerse yourself in the true spirit of the place.
