     The next day we got up and headed towards Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, I've always wanted to go there based solely on the fact that it is one of my favorite Irish songs. My birthday weekend "abroad". The German band "Subway to Sally" once sang a song about Carrickfergus. I only realised this place existed in reality, when already staying in Dublin. I just had to go there!

The outstanding feature on the north shore at the entrance to Belfast Lough, Carrickfergus castle commands the approaches to the city and is one of the best complete examples of Anglo-Norman military architecture.  The castle represents over 800 years of military might. So I just recently got back from a three week intensive visit to Ireland/Northern Ireland where I was studying for school credit. I got some studying done, lots of sightseeing, and even more drinking with the locals and my new friends! Enjoy!
