My birthday weekend "abroad". The German band "Subway to Sally" once sang a song about Carrickfergus. I only realised this place existed in reality, when already staying in Dublin. I just had to go there!

The outstanding feature on the north shore at the entrance to Belfast Lough, Carrickfergus castle commands the approaches to the city and is one of the best complete examples of Anglo-Norman military architecture.  The castle represents over 800 years of military might. Besieged in turn by the Scots, Irish, English and French, the Castle saw action right up to World War II. So I just recently got back from a three week intensive visit to Ireland/Northern Ireland where I was studying for school credit. I got some studying done, lots of sightseeing, and even more drinking with the locals and my new friends! Enjoy!
