Carpinteria is situated south of Santa Barbara by approximately 15 minutes. There are quite a few nice beaches with hiking trails as well as a naturally occurring tar pit right on the beach. It has a somewhat small downtown area.

I took a roadtrip through wine country this weekend, Santa Barbara county is a most amazing place. Although a short distance from frenzied LA, you feel thousands of miles from the hectic crowds.
