Carolus Hotel Mechelen

Situated in the centre in Mechelen you have the possibility to stay in a hotel that is a part of a brewery; and not just any brewery but probably one of the best in Belgium and in the world. The hotel is situated in the corner of the Begijnhof of Mechelen which makes is very attractive; besides that there is only 5 minutes walk to the city centre.

The hotel is a baseline 3 star hotel but it is very clean and you can have almost all your basic hotel needs handled here. My room this time was very large and the bed nice and hard.

The receptionist was sweet and the reception is only manned until 9pm. After that you need the code to enter the hotel. The breakfast was nice and rich; I didn’t miss anything.

The Carolus hotel in Mechelen is a nice little hotel that has a great ratio of quality and price. The hotel is situated 5 min walk from the city centre, and what a nice walk it is. You can either walk along the canal down to the fish market or you can walk through the begijnhof, which I have done hundreds of times. The area will be one of my favourite unknown spots in Belgium.

It is not a high class hotel but all the basics are there and are working. I have stayed there and enjoyed every time. The breakfast is good and not exceptional. As a curiosity it has to be mentioned that the hotel is a part of the Carolus brewery which makes one of the best beers in the world.
