Awesome Carnival party in Austin Apr 02, 2011
Carnaval Brasilero brings a bit of Rio to Austin, Texas style. The annual costume ball/bacchanal is held every February. Originally started by some Brazilian students at UT, it now has grown to one of Austin's largest parties with thousands of revelers. Costumes (or lack of them.. there is a lot of body paint on show) can be incredibly ornate and Carnaval is a great place for people watching. The bands are deafening with their whistles and samba drums. Capoeira practitioners dance and twist their bodies around. It's all great fun!
