Originally the site of a charitable institution for women, as well as another church from the fourteenth century, this present church was constructed in the sixteenth century and lies just outside central Venice. The chapels are beautifully decorated with grand paintings, most notably from the brushes of Conegliano and Tintoretto. The church was being restored when I visited, and although this was blocking the overall effect, I still thought the church was rather beautiful and it would be great to see it once it is fully restored. A very nicely kept church and worth a quick visit after you’re done seeing the expected sights of Venice.
