I was sooo excited to take the 4 hour caving tour on Saturday where you get to crawl around the cave off the trails. And then I was soooo bummed when I found out the tour was sold out - in fact, they sell out a month in advance! I wish the website would have mentioned that! I almo…

The second half of our trip was from Houston to Santa Fe, via Carlsbad, NM. Amazingly enough, there's not a lot to see in West Texas or easter…

This is truly one of the Wonders of the World. 3 miles long and 800 feet below ground you will find a transformed world. This was definitely a spectacular display of earth's artistry. At sundown you will see a silhouette of 200,000 bats coming out for a nights feast.

Carlsbad Caverns is a must see for anyone interested in seeing a wonder of the world before "they kick the bucket" I made it a day trip by taking off from Las Cruces and it took approx.3 hours to make it. We decided to take the hiking route down and take the elevator up. The hike down is an hour full of huge limestone formations that are still growing. During the summer time, at dusk there is an amphitheater where you may sit and watch thousands of bats flying out of the cave to hunt at night!

After walking down approximately 750 feet down into the natural entrance, you enter a trail leading through these magnificent caves, full of beautiful towers, crystals, formations, and dark pools of water. It makes you feel as if you are on another planet, or have entered a science-fiction novel!

Ok so it's not some exotic far off land but, this is some of the most amazing scenery I have ever seen. Here in our very own backyard! Some of these places are nothing more than a town to pass by on the way to a more exciting place for most people. However I see much beauty in these places, to me these are the heart and soul of America.
