Carlsbad Caverns National Park Overview

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is located in southeastern New Mexico. The primary attraction of the park for most visitors is Carlsbad Caverns. Visitors to the cave can hike in on their own via the natural entrance, or take the elevator (the exit for everyone) directly down to the Underground Lunchroom some 750 feet (230 m) below.

James White discovered and did much of the early exploration of the caves and named many of the rooms beginning around 1898.

Located about 18 miles south of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
