A classical composer's summer house May 27, 2017
A must for fans of classical music is this small museum in Dresden-Hosterwitz. Carl-Maria von Weber, composer and General Music Director at the opera house in Dresden, used to spend the summer months in this former winegrower's house.

He composed the operas "Euryanthe" and "Oberon" as well as large parts of "Der Freisch├╝tz", and also the well-known little piece "Aufforderung zum Tanz" in this house.

The charming house kept the ambience of the 19th century. You can see documents and notes (in German) by Weber as well as interior of his time; an excellent permanent exhibition on his life. When I visited classical music composed by Weber was played from CD.

Very often classical (chamber) music concerts take place in the small hall on the ground floor or in the lovely garden.

Bus: 63 (direction Pillnitz/Graupa/Bonnewitz), stop van-Gogh Strasse, short walk uphill.

Opening hours: Wed-Sun 13-18 h

Admission fee: 4 Euro, every Fri afternoon (except holidays) free!
