Disappointed Sep 01, 2013
We were excited to visit this hotel as the pictures seemed nice. We were using our Hilton Honors points so the stay was covered. Upon arrival the front desk seemed very apathetic to the atmosphere and guests. We booked a room in the garden wing because we were told the view was nice. It wasn't. We were on the 7th floor overlooking the rooftops of the restaurants with a slight view of a group of trees. That's it.

When we walked into our room we noticed one of the windows had a huge crack down it. We just covered it with the blinds. There were cracks in the walls and the room seemed tired and worn. The bathroom was nice, however, with many updates and nice facilities. About five minutes after walking in we heard our neighbors yelling. I guess they were getting ready to go out and were having a good time but we could hear everything. We thought it was a bunch of teenage girls. Not the hotels fault but we could also hear everything by the elevators. The walls were paper thin. We requested a room change and the front desk was accommodating saying another room would be ready in the main tower in one hour. Instead of waiting around the hotel for our one night in San Juan we decide to go out to Old San Juan and wait for them to call us ( which they said they would). Before we left we stopped by the front desk to let them know what we were doing and to call us once it was ready for a second time just to be clear. Three hours later we return to the hotel without a phone call and check to see if the room was ready. It wasn't. So instead they put us one level down, one room down in the same situation. In the end we just stayed in our original room because it wasn't worth it anymore. It was late we were tired and had to wake up very early and the walk to/from the garden wing and lobby isn't short.

Before going out to Old San Juan we took a walk around the grounds to check things out a bit. The pools were too packed. I thought the hotel was just really, really booked for off season but then I learned that it gets that way on weekends because the locals are able to get access? I don't know if this is true but I can say it was an overwhelming amount of people. There was hardly anywhere to even sit so we didn't bother. Needless to say, with so many bodies in one area it was wrecked. Towels everywhere, strollers, bags, everything was wet and used and I was really put off. I can honestly say I was glad we were only there for one night.

There were so many little things like trash under the benches, the ballroom entrance moulding was ripped out and it just looked bad. I understand renovations are sometimes needed but it is the way you address and plan it that makes a difference.

I can forgive minor things in hotels because not all can be perfect but in this case the bad outweigh the good and this isn't a property we would stay at again. Hilton is missing the mark on this one.

For being on the edge of business and comfort May 13, 2011
I stayed in this hotel many times. sometimes eery month. It was close to the city for doing business, you can take cabs around so you don't need a car. The restaurant down stairs, Mortons Steak House, is great a usual. The hotel still has the very best property as it did since days gone by. There is a nice private beach all located on a cove between historic sites. There are hammocks, the view is great as well as the wonderful tropical garden. There were peacocks and other fowl like I found often in Hawaii. On the downside, many room overlook the convention center roof and face the restaurant making the rooms noisy with the sound of the AC and exhaust units, not pretty to look at and as I said noisy. I enjoy being able to leave the window open and hear the waves, but not here. There is no casino, there used be may years ago and there was talk about installing one but I haven;t been back there lately to see if it will become a reality. If you are in PR for business, this is perfect! If you want Solitude and open windows in the night, go to the Westin in Rio Mar.

I used to live nearby (relatively speaking) and enjoyed touring the Isla Verde and Condado strips at night with friends for dinner or cocktails. Great memories.

Affordable luxury on the beach Sep 23, 2011
When I stayed at the Caribe it was during the time of non-peak tourist season right before school and about a week after Hurricane Fay had moved on to Florida.

The highlights of this hotel were its overall cleanliness, open pool with a bar area you can reach by swimming to the high area of the pool and ordering from there and a small area where thre was a beach you could attend.

The food prices at the hotel were expensive but so was the rest of the island. You could walk to the hotels down a bit and Old San Juan and the mall were about a 10 minutes drive. Best thing is they provided a 5 dollar taxi service anywhere within a certain amount of miles.

Older but nice hotel in San Juan Feb 01, 2007
Although I usually prefer newer construction for hotels, this hotel still meets the high standards of the discriminating traveler. Built in the 1940's, the Caribe Hilton is still a nice choice to stay at when you are visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico. There are beautifully landscaped pools and a private beach for hotel guests. The Hilton Club Member VIP lounge was nicely stocked with snacks and drinks. The hotel is just west of the trendy condado neighborhood and east of Old San Juan. Be sure to check out all the historical sites in the old city as well as enjoy the bars and clubs in other nearby neighborhoods.
