I didn't sleep a wink that night as the excitement was way to much for me to handle, images of crystal clear waters, white sands and rum based cocktails would not leave my mind. I couldn't beleive that in just a few hours I would be on a flight to Jamaica, away from London for 3 weeks for qualitly mother - daughter time :) . The flight was Long and exauhsting however upon landing the pilot was great, Landing In JA was like gliding on water ... literally ! We arrived in jamaica just in time ...

A couple of gringas on a Cuban adventure!
posted by:
Jul 21, 2007 - Jul 30, 2007
On my last day I experienced Cuba at its most frustrating.  After eating a delicious Cuban breakfast at our casa and saying our sad goodbyes to Sergio, Miriam, and their daughter, we departed for the airport.  We checked in with the airline and got through customs with no problem.  I wanted to get rid of as much evidence as I could of me being in Cuba before returning to the U.S., so I spent my last few CUC$’s on a book (Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "One Hundred Year's of Solitud...

Oslo, Norway -› Havana, Cuba -› ...
Oslo - Havana, this will be a long day.       I have had a dream; se Cuba before Castro dies.  Last autumn I realised I had to hurry when Fidel got health troubles.     I got the opportunity to be part of a group bicycling for 14 days.  Our route is from the Havana in the North to Vinales in the West, via Pinar del Rio to Cienfuegos, Trinidad and Sancti Spiritus in the East and back to Havana.   &nb...

Saint Barts

St. Barthelemy Saint. Barts is only a 45 minute boat ride from our resort in St. Maarten. So we decided to take a day journey to the beautiful Island of St. Barts. When we got there, my mom and I took a tour of the whole Island and went to the beach, which is called St. Jean's Beach. It was so beautiful, then we went to look at the shop along the beach. But could not afford to buy anything there. Everything was in Euros and was so expensive. Then, unfortunately we had to go back to the boat....

Getting off a cruise ship is my other least favorite part of the vacation.  You need to be out of your cabin and wait for your turn to leave the ship.  We had a good breakfast in the Windjammer buffet and said our last goodbyes to the Legend.   We were off the ship at 9:00 a.m. and our flight wasn’t until after 4:00 p.m.  We had 3 choices at this time. 1.      Go straight to the airport and wait for 7 hours (BLECH – okay, so that’s not rea...

Arrived in Jamaica!
posted by:
Nov 05, 2007 - Nov 14, 2007
Leaving Jamaica was one of the hardest things I've had to do in a long time.  I was darn near tears when going because really, who wants to leave paradise?!?  We woke very early that morning, got our luggage together and waited for our driver to arrive and take us to the airport where we checked in.  At least I was able to have one last beef patty available at a shop in the airport before leaving.

I must start off stating How exited I was going on this trip. This was my first international trip outside the US. I have visited Toronto, Ontario, Canada before but for the record this was the one. I mentioned to my son Elliot (cabotono) my desire to go to the Dominican Republic. This was really one of the destinations I wanted to go. My husband traveled frequently to Dominican Republic and again I never had the opportunity to go. One day my son Elliot gave me the usual daily phone call (all...

I have family in Cuba. Went several years ago and was so happy to meet relatives. What a beautiful place!! Didn't get to go to Trinidad where most of them live because it is hard to get around. But saw Havana, Varadero, and some other small towns. I am determined to go back again...maybe next Christmas :)

We stayed at Iberostar Bavaro/Dominica/Punta Cana Resort.  All inclusive.  The beaches & resort were very nice.   The food was pretty good, but the beaches, resort, crowd, and nightlife were excellent.   We met so many cool people (staff and other tourists). Our rooms were outstanding (they were all junior suites).  Had temps around 80 - 85 degrees all week (which was a nice break from winter in VT).   We were a group of 5 and had an absolute blast. Eve...

Of Nassau and Dolphins

Carnival Glory docked in Nassau around 8:00 a.m. It had been a short overnight sail from Port Canaveral. But, port time would be limited as we had a much longer voyage ahead to reach St. Thomas two days hence. We disembarked and walked over to Festival Place, the customs and welcome center. I picked up a map and information. There were market stalls here, too. But, as it was Sunday morning after all, no one was yet open.  We had opted for the Carnival-sponsored Dolphn Encounter tou...

Los Tres Ojos
posted by:
Aug 21, 2007 - Aug 25, 2007
Los Tres Ojos, meaning the Three Eyes, has in spite of its name four ponds. The first pond is of a perfect aquamarine tone, the second is the smallest and its water is sulfurous. The third, and biggest, is fresh water and has strong undercurrents. The most beautiful pond is the fourth pond which resembles the crater of a sleeping volcano. It is a cenote, which means the cave ceiling has collapsed and so the lake is now at the bottom of a shaft with vertical walls and sun is shining ...

The small town of Las Galeras is on the northeastern tip of the Samana Peninsula, the last stop on the highway which runs along the north coast from Puerto Plata. Up until a few years ago, Las Galeras was yet another small fishing village with untouched natural beauty. Probably due to it's close proximity to Samana, it was wealthy Dominicans who were first to discover this secret paradise as a vacation destination. Since then, the village has seen quite some growth, with new hotels, restaura...

Our flight from Santo Domingo was late in the afternoon, so our group decided to do the ship's tour of the city.  By taking this tour, we not only got to see some sights, but also transfers to the airport, and early disembarkation from the ship.  Around 9:00 am, we met in the ship's theater and traveled as a group off the ship, claimed our luggage, and boarded buses for the tour.  For the first part of the tour, our guide along with the bus driver who drove us&nb...
