Tropical seaside Cardwell is on the North Queensland coast of eastern Australia. The Girrimay people are the Aboriginal traditional owners of Cardwell, with strong cultural links to the region. Cardwell resides in the Cardwell Shire, nestled between the inland rainforested Cardwell Range coastal escarpment and to the east, Hinchinbrook Island. Further east is the Great Barrier Reef.
The natural resources of the area are in close proximity to the major towns being, Cardwell, Tully and Mission Beach. Travel times to visit natural attractions and features of interest are reduced. Enabling greater amounts of "quality time" being spent at your destination(s), enjoying outdoor activities of choice. Internet research is very productive to get you started on your journey. Major east coast Australian international/domestic transportation hubs are Cairns in the north and Townsville to the south of Cardwell. Commuter services such as Coaches and Rail will connect you to beach-side Cardwell. For Visitor Information, visit the SWIT Guide website Cardwell (http://www.switguide.com). To learn more about the Aboriginal cultural richness of the area, and emerging Aboriginal tourism ventures see the Girrignun Aboriginal Corporation website (www.girringun.com.au), or that of the Jumbun Aboriginal Community (www.jumbunaboriginaltourism.com.au)

Seeking the opportunity to see a little more of our local scenic attractions, my children and I jumped at the opportunity to book SWIT Guide Eco Adventure Tours to Paluma Lake and Wallaman Falls. I found cycling, kayaking and camping to be attractive features of the tours, as, unlike my children, I had virtually no experience in these areas, and was enthusiastic to try something new.

Australia III - This time we started in Brisbane, took a flight up North to Darwin, went on a 4day Kakadu Nat Park 4WD Tour, took another flight to Cairns and from there we rented a camper to travel back down South to Brisbane. Will we ever make it.?

The clear tropical North Queensland winter weather prompted a SWIT Guide trip to Broadwater Creek.
In recent times, extensive forestry operations have taken place in the vicinity of Broadwater Creek National Park, resulting in the removal of many pine trees. This enabled us to admire the vast expanses of the mountainous escarpment scenery from the road.
Upon our arrival at the camping area, Otto took us on the Broadwater Creek Overflow Walk. The water at the Overflow was c...
