Cardrona Snow Park Reviews

Not as good as it should be! Now we know why it was so much cheaper than the rest! Aug 26, 2008
This is our opinion of the accomodation but wecan not speak for the place from a skiers point of view. Skiers can come up to the Snow Park for the day. There are two places at the top of the hill, Snow Park and Snow Farm. Because the accomodation reception is not signposted it is apparently not unusual for people to end up at the Snow Farm.

After a lot of confusion we arrived at the carpark of the Snow Park. From there we had to walk between some buildings and then over a bridge to a building that had a restaurant/cafe/bar and the reception area. Never would have looked there if we had not had directions from the staff at Snow Farm.

There was no receptionist on duty so one of the girls from the bar checked us in to Appartment 1 rm 3. The accommodation is a set of 4 appartments which each have 4 lockable bedrooms with ensuite and a shared living area with a balcony that overlooked the skifields. We could not drive our car to the appartment because of the mud and slush so the staff got out a 4x4 and we got the luggage from our car and the staff member dropped us off and left.

When we looked at our room which was not the one that I had booked originally a long time before, we looked out of our window onto a mound of dirt with snow on it and someones 4x4 parked there. Not happy with that and because of the slush out side, I tried to phone reception to no avail. I then went upstairs to the shared living area where there was someone lying on the sofa. I asked if he knew if there was a phone to contact reception but he seemed bewildered. I then saw a phone in the kitchen area. I got through to the reception and complained about the room and told them that we were not prepared to stay in that appartment because we were unhappy with the room and definately not happy because the living area was an absolute pigstye. It turned out that it was the owner and his wife in the appartment and no one else was meant to be booked in there. Some one came flying up to see us full of apologies and offered to move us to appartment 4 with our choice of bedrooms and of course the use of the living area. No one else in that appartment that night. We took the upstairs bedroom as that was on the same level as the living areas. We did enjoy sitting and looking over the ski fields that evening and made a simple meal there.

The next morning we got up and enjoyed watching the championship skiing from the balcony. At lunch time we decided to go to the cafe for lunch but when we tryed to lock our bedroom door because we knew that there would be some one else checking in later, and the door would not lock. When we went down for lunch we went to tell them about the lock first so that they would be able to get it fixed.

The nightmare begins again. The receptionist went into panic mode, apparently we weren't meant to be there either and the other person coming in was booked into that room so she wanted to move us to Appartment 3 rm 3. To make it worse they tried telling us that if we wanted to use the living area we had to pay extra. When the weather turns bad there is no way to get down to the cafe/restaurant/bar!

So we weren't in the appartment or room that we had booked and I had been told that it was a share living area but now was being told that we had to pay extra. Needless to say, we said forget it and left.

We had seen the accommodation at the Snow Farm and wished we had been there, it would have been much better.

Snow Park did not even have a nice atmosphere. We were extremely disappointed with the place.

It could be a good place if it was run properly!
