Cardigan Wales Jan 23, 2018
Cardigan is the town after which the Bay , off the west coast of Wales, is named. In Welsh language it is Ceredigion. The town of Cardigan was established in 1110. It became an important port in the Middle Ages. ,then declined in 1886, about the time of the arrival of the railway. The first castle was built of wood, when the stone castle was completed, to celebrate ,an event of poetry and music was held, this is what is called the first ever Eistedfod. So Cardigan is the place of the first Eistedfod which is Welsh event of Poets and Musicians.--The first stone bridge over the river Teifi was built in the 15th century and widened in the 19th century. ------.There are plenty of eating and drinking places in Cardigan. It was a cold day when i was in Cardigan so had a lovely hot Celery soup with blue cheese and bread and butter ,in a cafe in Old Lion Mews just off the main street.---Cardigan is about 40 miles from Aberystwth, Bus T5 runs hourly from Aberystwth and to Haverfordwest also hourly.----- Along with England ,Scotland and Northern Ireland, Wales is part of the United Kingdom.. Wales has its own Language, along with English. English being the main language. Road signs are in both languages. The currency is the British Pound.
