Carcassonne is separated in two parts (‘La cité’ and ‘ville basse’) by the Aude river.
Especially La cité is more than worth its visit. It’s one of the most beautiful places in Europe, discovering this city makes you feel you’re back in the middle ages. The story goes that Walt Disney got inspired by this magical place, and used Carcassonne as an example for his theme parks. The old walled city was even used as the setting for the 1991 film, "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves"

A FAIRY-TALE!!!
The first view of the upper town of Carcassonne is the best. You'll get surprised by the look, does this still exist? YES IT DOES!!! Perched high above the river Aude, the Cité is a must see for every visitor nearby. Don't be fooled though, this UNESCO world heritage site is only a 19th-century restoration by Viollet-le-Duc. He recreated a magnificent citadel with stout ramparts and pennant-capped towers. The medieval looks makes it unique.
