wow! this was a strange meeting, that's for sure. Kim and I were in touch before we both even thought about going to Venezuela. Finally when we both were sure when we would go, we realized we would go to different cities, so no way to meet.
It was Saturday and I was in my way to my gate in order to flight back home after being in a business trip for almost 15 days. I was walking fast, but I started walking slower when I heard a voice announcing a flight was boarding. I just wanted to be…

With my cousins who live in Caracas we took the aerial tram to Cerro del Avila, it was huuuge! it seemed like it was never gonna end but it took aprox. 30 minutes. Up in the top of the hill it was really cold and windy.
People were selling nice delicious typical food up there: arepas, corn with cheese and other pastries. There was a German style house also but it was closed i had enough with enjoying of the view because it´s very impressive.

Ok,day 2,so im up at the crack of dawn and my intention is to get to the aiport and get down to Canaima.let me emphasize that that was my intention. Ok from Hotel peral, there is a bus station less than 5 minutes walk, the bus stations are places of constant bustle, noise, the smells of areypa's and empanadas mixing with the nauseous fumes from the buses, some of which look as though if they hit a speed bump at 15 mph they would just fall to pieces.
So im wandering around this bus station trying …

On New Years Day we took a flight from Chicago to Caracas, landing at night. The taxi driver went well beyond the call of duty to help us find our cheap hotel in a shady neighborhood. And then we were off....

After a 45min flight we arrived to Caracas. Our flight to Lima was for 7pm and it was just 3pm, so we had a lot of time. We arrived to the domestic flights area. Everything was perfect, the only thing was that we had to wait a long time for our bags. Blair was getting worried about his luggage. While we were at the plane, I noticed some people were getting excited about a fat guy. They seemed to know him, mmm. Anyway, while we were waiting for our bags, I realized a lot of people were trying …

I was teaching scuba diving on a small island North of Venezuela called Bonaire. The diving there is rather good! I had been on the island all summer and I wanted to get away for awhile so I asked a friend, Manionita, of mine if she knew of any good places to stay in Caracas. She is a Venezuelan national who fled to Bonaire (a Dutch colony) due to the political unrest. She said that she had an apartment there however she had not been there in over a year and a half. She offered me the keys an…

Venezuela is an amazing place. Much different than i expected as it was my first South American country which i assumed would be just like Central America. I found myself in small village towns with dirt "roads"...to large modern cities with 7 story malls!

Why did we come here again?! I should've listened to a friend's advice and stayed away! Our stay in Caracas was short and sweet. I was actually quite disappointed because I was expecting a lot more from it. But it turned out to be just another big capital, with not much to see.
We strolled around the historic centre, tried some of the local specialties, including Venezuelan empanadas and arepas, and even caught a peek at an ongoing Chavez-related debate. Lucky for us, there…
