Captain's Quarters Inn - The massive front porch looks like it would great fun in the summertime.
Captain's Quarters Inn - Our bed. Comfortable enough, but not spectacular.
Captain's Quarters Inn - ...and there was plenty more to the bathroom beyond the hot tub.
Captain's Quarters Inn - The enormous hot tub in the 'Captain of Her Heart' room...
Captain's Quarters Inn - Captain's Quarters Inn decked out for the holidays.
Captain's Quarters Inn - Lovely parlor in the main area of the house...would have been nice to relax here, but we were never informed whether it was okay to hang out here?

Digs in Historic Downtown Edenton Dec 27, 2012
One of a treasure trove of bed and breakfast options in Edenton, my wife & I settled on this for a rather cheesy reason. The inn offers eight rooms, one being named the “Captain of Her Heart” room, which features a large hot tub and caught Kim’s eye. We were not disappointed, though the establishment was a mix of plusses and minuses.

Your hosts, Don and Diane, are a definite plus. I only met Diane briefly when checking out, but Don chatted with us during check in and served a wonderful breakfast, providing A-1 service. Though I really liked Don personally, I’m afraid he isn’t a wizened hotel veteran and communicated very little about the inn’s amenities. The house is divided, with the eight rooms for guests accessed by a separate doorway located on the front porch.

There are only guest rooms on this side, no parlor area that seems requisite for B&B’s of this vintage. I came away with the impression we were only invited to inhabit this one side, but when we entered the main house section for breakfast it was obvious a very nice parlor was available. Probably would have enhanced our stay if we had been advised of being able to relax here. We were also provided a room key with no education around whether or not it could/should be used to lock the front door to this side of the house in addition to our room?

The bedroom was nothing spectacular. A bit on the smallish side, it contained the standard old-timey furniture and trinkets, but nothing amazing. The featured bathroom, however, was quite amazing. Beyond the enormity of the room (almost double the bedroom), the hot tub was palatial and they even provided bath beads for your evening soak (as well as a pair of small rubber duckies, which were cute but floated nose down and caused my wife to exclaim “that’s just wrong”, lol).

Breakfast was also fantastic. Diane is a former chef and they apparently host dinners Saturday evenings which sound splendid. We were served dynamite pork omelets in a lovely room with top notch service provided by Don. The place settings were fine bone china and everything was the definition of elegance – best B&B breakfast ever!

So, bottom line is that the Captain’s Quarters Inn is a good choice (very reasonably priced). Just be sure to ask questions at check in to fill in any blanks – Don and Diane are tremendously accommodating and I think the lack of full disclosure was only driven by a lack of experience.
