And now for something strange...... Jun 13, 2008
For those of you who want to see something different on your visit to Rome - not just the usual Colosseum, Foro Romano, or Spanish Steps - go to the Cappella dei Cappuccini. At first you might be disgusted/horrified by the display of dead monks' bones (chandeliers made of them, rib bone arrays on the walls, mock grim reapers hanging off the ceiling), but then you see that it is a way to display these "brothers" rather than keep them buried where no one sees them.

Particularly interesting is the graffiti on the skulls and clavicles of the monks. Gianni loves Anna, or Sandra was here. These were written back in the 1970's when the watchful eye of the nuns was not as sharp as they are today. You cannot even laugh at the displays without being reprimanded for not displaying respect to the dead.
