Capoeira Males Washington Reviews
If you're in town and need a place to take Capoeira classes, come visit us Aug 27, 2012
I have been taking capoeira classes (an Afro-Brazilian martial art that incorporates dance movements and acrobatics) since October 2009 and I love it lots. If you're new to Capoeira, just want to come see what it looks like, or are visiting from out of town and need a place to play, come visit us!
We play under Mestre Curisco (who usually travels from Washington state to visit us in DC 3 or 4 times a year) and Instrutor Morcego. The academy has schools in Mexico, Brazil and Canada. Capoeira Males welcomes new folks on Monday evenings, Wednesday evenings, Saturday afternoons for intro classes, but check the website for the schedule details. You can take a few classes and see if you like the art. Once you've decided you're interested, you can buy a uniform and partake in a variety of schedule of classes.
There are children's classes available too for kids as young as 4ish, but come back and ask questions and observe a class or 2 before deciding to enroll your child. There is little chance of contact between kids, but there are lots of movements and acrobatic things done in class (good for those who might have ADHD) and I like watching the kids who really enjoying taking the class and showing everyone their moves.
You must sign a waiver-just so you know. Once you've been there for a few weeks, it'll be easy to be sucked into a good community. It's not a fancy studio, but we have what we need. If you come to class, be prepared to sweat, whether it's summer or the dead of winter. Gatorade has become my friend and I look forward to classes several times a week.
(IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE IN DC SEPTEMBER 29, 2012, YOU CAN COME BY AND SEE A BATIZADO 'BAPTISM' FOR NEW STUDENTS AND GRADUATION FOR DEVELOPING STUDENTS. BUT THIS IS NO WALK-ACROSS-A-STAGE-AND-BOW EVENT. YOU WATCH STUDENTS PRESENT THEIR SKILLS AND WATCH TALENTED VISITORS SHOW OFF THEIR SKILLS...AND BEST OF ALL-IT'S FREE!)
