So I've arrived this early morning to Cape Verde island of Sal, and got into a transfer for the hotel in Santa Maria. the most turistic part of Sal. I've found out that this is a place dedicated to the turist, not much local culture here. This is a great place for someone that wnats to go to t…

Amazing archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic, closer to Senegal than to Central America. * Mixture of everything (colonial Portugal, South America, Africa, the Caribbean), placed in what was once a 'green (verde) paradise'. * Of the ten islands, only one is still superbly green, the others resembling a lunar landscape. * Dark volcanic rocks, scarlet sands, golden beaches, dry winds, bearable heat, few tourists - a lovely place to see!

I loved to visit the less touristic part of these islands. Sal and Boavista are the most expected ones because of their beaches. São Vicente is the right place for the music and cultural life. Cape Verde people are very good at theatre even without great supports. And "mornas" and "coladeras" are …

What a place, what a spectacle of Nature. Away from the crowds, busy roads and packed beaches and all that beauty to yourself, or almost, if it wasn't for those small groups of French hikers I met on my all-day hikes among those breathtaking hills and picks - I will be back I told that old man smoking a silent cigar sitting on the porch of his hut, while contemplating the deep valley below.
