Cape Town Chaos

I have spent almost a full week now in Cape Town.  It has been somewhat of a frustrating experience for me in some ways.  First off, I had a bit of traveler's fatigue when I got here.  I was not interested in really doing anything.  I managed to move past that over time, but I had to deal first with accommodation issues.  When I arrived I was only able to book a dorm way off Long Street (the happening part of town) in a bit of a sketchy area.  It reminded me of R...

On of the babies at the safe house were I was volunteering had severly clubbed feet, so Every friday he would get casts put on and every thurdsay I would take them off. On one fine Friday morning Leanna(a local south african women ) and I were on the way back from the Hospital with "Matti" and his fresh casts. Cape Town

South Africans call Cape Town "The Mother City" as it was the first place in the country settled by Europeans. The origninal inhabitants were the Khoisan, a group of people living in Southern Africa since the days of the caveman, if not before. Cape Town has a rich history as a sea port and place where cultures from around Africa and the world have mixed for decades, beneath the majestic backdrop of towering Table Mountain. Day 1 I flew from Durban on cheap but inefficient Mang...

Ah!

To Cape Town

We get up at 6.15 am. I haven’t slept very well, probably because of the warmth in our room (no air-conditioning, just a fan). Breakfast is o.k., but the mushrooms taste awful. We leave at 8 and very soon Trudy starts feeling sick. And it gets worse and worse, until finally breakfast comes ‘round for the second time. Again we are driving through magnificent landscapes. When the morning comes to an end we are surrounded by rocks and mountains and it is hard to see where the road leads us...

This very colorfull area is the home of what are called the Cape-Malay people. It is a very nice area but is no longer safe to walk around by yourself even in the daytime. Either have a guide from the area or view the amazing colors from the backseat of a taxi.

Day 25 - Start of 20 days Cape to Vic falls - 5673km May 3, '08 9:06 PMfor everyone Last night was the last night in Cape Town, we decided that we deserve at least one beer before we hit the road for the long journey to Victoria Falls, imbabwe. " just one drink" Gayle promised The night started at the Dubliner Pub just across our hostel on Long street. The band was good and I am now a fan of Windhoek beer. Wine farms of the Cape
posted by:

The wine routes bring back memories, and almost from the day my baby was born, 25 July 2005 she experienced some of the best the Cape has to offer. The Spier wine estate in Stellenbosch is beautiful with it's rolling lawns, and relaxing lake. The cheetas visit and the wild birds are a true bonus before being transitioned into a trult African world at the cuisine delights of Moyo. It is pricey but beyond worth the experience .. Oh yes and the wines were great too. The proximity to the other w...

having met some fantastic people in stellenbosch on nye we headed to cape town on the morning of jan 1st to end our organised trip. I was staying in the Boutique backpackers and would recommend it to anyone heading to cape town. It costs a little more than some others but it was a great base for exploring cape town (very close to long street), with the best views of table mountain and the table cloth, from both the pool and the bar. Everyone here (besides being generally hungover form nye) wa...
