Campground with a beach Jul 24, 2009
Cape Lookout State park is a large campground on the northern Oregon Coast that has camping, day use facilities and some hiking trails.
The campground has 36 full hookup sites, 1 electrical, 173 tent sights, 13 yurts, 3 deluxe cabins a group tent area and a bicycle and hiker camping area. The campground itself is large and has that urban feel to it but if you search around through it you might find a site that is not smack next to your neighbor. Half of the sites are out in an open area and the rest area a bit back in the trees (I found tent sites D56, D55, D42, D40, D32, D30, D28, D72 to be nice with a little seperation and privacy between sites; for Yurt sites C40, C38, C36 looked good)
Oregon State Park facilities include flush toilets and shower facilities that are lighted at night so you will not be hanging out in a dark vault toilet here.
The Park sits on the beach so you can walk the mile or so of beach. There is also a day use area with picnic tables looking out at a short section of the beach. There are 3 hiking trails. One (the North Trail) heading from the campground to the trailhead which heads out to cape lookout, another one (the Cape Trail)heading out to the tip of Cape Lookout and another trail (the South Trail) heading down to a beach to the south of Cape Lookout. We took a hike on the Cape trail and had a nice hike out to the end of the trail. The final point is a bit of a letdown as it is very similar to other parts of the trail but it is still nice.
Overall, if you want to stay here, get online and make a reservation for a tent site or a yurt. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well
