Sometimes you have to get out

Occasionally there were walks around town. There's not much to see in Canterbury except the Canterbury Cathedral, which is beautiful but you can't go there every day. I mean, I guess you could, but I didn't. I guess I was waiting for them to build an amusement park on the high street or something, because at the time it seemed like there was nothing to do in town that American Cari, with her short attention span, would deign to see. Funny how you realize these things too late. But anyway, asid…

Quaint little Canterbury

I got a SWEET hook-up from Nikki through her Arcadia program and got to go on a day trip with the Arcadia crew even though I came through SUNY New Paltz. If that means nothing to you, just know that I totally got to take advantage of the system today. First stop as a freeloader was Canterbury. Nikki and I walked around... saw some old stuff... lots of cobblestone... The highlight was probably Canterbury Cathedral. SUPER old. SUPER famous. Beautiful inside. Beautiful outside. Beautiful …

Again, just what the title implies. I was leaving the UK in about a week and figured you couldn't beat twenty-pound bus fare roundtrip.

Leaving Canterbury
posted by:
Jul 05, 2008
An early morning for some saw us loading the car with bags, food and the odd, and i mean the odd bottle of drink. This was a trip that had been planned for months. Although it had been changed time and time again. With tickets bought back in november we were finally on the road to see the Metal band Iron Maiden at Twickenham. Before we got that far a short trip down the road to pick up my friend and her daughter was needed. Turning quickly we headed off with music blearing down to the sunny p…

1 hour in Canterbury
posted by:
Sep 28, 2006 - Oct 18, 2007
On my way back to France (for 5 short days to see family), I stopped at Canterbury (Kent) before taking the ferryboat in Dover. Unfortunately, I only had one hour. I planned just to sit at a terrace watching the place with the cathedral as a quiet break. It did not go like that at all! I have to admit that Canterbury was a bit disappointing. I don't write that at all for the cathedral, which is remarkable and even more. I visited it 10 years ago and I wanted to see it again, being older…

Centerbury is a nice place for tourists. This charming town of Canterbury is situated in the east of the county Canterbury has a long and fascinating history. The earliest evidence of a settlement dates back to the Iron Age at about 300 BC, whose remains can be viewed today in Castle Street. Pilgrims and visitors have made their way to Canterbury Cathedral since the Middle Ages. It remains one of the most visited places in England. The Canterbury Cathedral is one of the most magnificen…

This is the place i live. A popular place for student to learn and for pilgrims to visit. The pilgrims these days include a large number of travellers from all over the world as well as the religious pilgrims. The city has a large number of places to eat as well as drink. Steeped in history from top to bottom the city as stood the test of time. Invaded by the Romans and resettled by the Saxons. Bombed during the second world war and rebuilt time and again. A really remarkable city.

The Canterbury Pilgrim
posted by:

Say the word Canterbury and the first thing that comes to mind is Canterbury Tales. Say Canterbury Tales and the next thing that comes to mind is that BBC production that stars the awful Billie Piper....but oh well! The Astral Travel's Pilgrims' Tour was well designed with Dover and our next stop Canterbury as part of the package. I was obviously all excited about seeing the Cathedral. After all this has been a pilgrim's stop for over 600 years. We arrived there a little before noo…

Day trip to Calais
posted by:
Oct 01, 2004
Living in Canterbury, England can be slow - I'll go ahead and say tedious. But fortunately, England's a small country and Canterbury's right on the edge of it, which means it isn't hard to get away.We (which really means my enterprising friend, Tracie) found this deal where a round trip from Canterbury to Calais - including bus fare to and from Dover and ferries to and from Calais - was five pounds a person. So we took it - duh. If you're in Canterbury and want to capitalize on the same deal,…

Day One
posted by:

These entries will be fleshed out as I get around to them...my first priority is getting all my pictures up first. I woke up in the dark (5:30 am) on my bare cot (the room having been emptied the night before) and considered hiding in the bathroom for a month. Reason got the better of me and I managed (eventually) to take a shower and get dressed. I walked all the way down the hill...in the snow...with my bags...to the train station, bought a ticket to Ashford and waited. I ran into Stephanie…

We went to Canterbury by coach for our day off. The city was beautiful and the cathedral is amazing! We managed to stay long enough to listen to Choral evensong in the cathedral which was given by a dutch choir.
