Canoe ride through the mangroves Reviews

A day in the Creek Mar 09, 2008
We took a canoe ride through the breathtaking mangrove channels of Mida Creek. There are three islands within the creek and especially around Sudie Island you can get almost lost in a maze of about 5 metres wide lanes of water leading through the trees. It is so quite out there, it's almost eerie. We saw flamingoes wading through the water, had flocks of white Ibis fying ahead of us and also spotted some colourfull reef-fish close to the roots of the mangroves. If you look closer at the roots, you can also see the mud-skippers, some weird creatures, something like a mixture of fish and lizzard.

We took a break in a little sea-grass garden on Kirepwe Island, where one of our guides grilled some fantastic calamari while we were splashing in the clear warm water.

The timing was perfect - our return trip started at sunset and by the time we almost got back to the shores, we spotted lots of stingrays, lit up by the green sea-lightning! It was breathtaking!!!

A canoe trip can be booked from two locations in Mida Creek: At the Ecocamp or at the Boardwalk.
