Cannon Mountain Ariel Tramway is an enclosed passenger tram that takes tourists to the top of Cannon Mountain. It is located in Franconia Notch State Park (exit 35B on I-93). Once up top (the ride is only about 10 minutes), there is an observation deck, that circles a cafeteria and restrooms.

On the trip up the Park Ranger gives you a nickel tour of what can see from up top. He or she will point out the various mountains and show you where Canada and Maine are at, if the weather is clear enough. The view are spectacular any time, but particularly so in the fall, when the colors explode in the valley and surrounding mountains. You can hike a bit higher up to an observation platform to truly be on top of Cannon Mountain.

Count on it being 20 degree colder on top then on bottom. So a pleasant 60 degree fall day, will be a chilly 40, with likely wind as well. So come prepared. The cafeteria has a small menu, which does include a decent hot chocolate. The cost is a little steep at $13 per adult and $10 per child. You can stay up until the last scheduled down tram.
