Cannes Vacation Guide
Cannes is a beautiful resort city on the Mediterranean gold coast, with stretches of rocky beach, palm tree lined boulevards, and glitzy shops restaurants and majestic hotels (no pun intended). My first visit there was at age 17 with a group of 10 students. It was a blast to camp nearby, and enjoy and daty and night life of this busy French playground.
My next visit to Cannes was a few years later, and I sayed in the perfectly located Hotel Cartlon (the Carlton of the famed Ritz Cartlon name). That hotel epitomizes the city. It is large, brightly opulent, and right in the center of the action. For subsequent visits I have elected small nearby villages for a more authentic French experience.
Cannes is easily accessible by car from nearby Nice, Monaco, St. Paul de Vence, Mandelieu, etc.
The entire Riviera is special, if not incredibly overcrwded by tourists from the world over. It therefore, tends to be overpriced and touristy. Cannes is sort of the poster child for this phenonemon, propped up by the annual film festval representing all things glittery and gold.
Don't be put off though. Cannes is definitely wrth a visit and 2 nights in the Carlton or another decent hotel. If you go there, be sure to take the ferry over to Isle St Marguerite. As nice as Cannes is by day, night time is when it shines. If you like to dress is casual chic, dine al fresco, and dance to the music under night lit palm trees, you'll love the night time in Cannes. Bon voyage!
