Campo de Miracoli Pisa Reviews
Look at the Small Details. Aug 13, 1998
The cathedral of Santa Maria di Fiore has a five-naved plan with a three-naved transept with a black and white marble interior. This gives it a beautifully subtle feel coupled with a frescoed dome that has a gilded ceiling. The ceiling art is that of the Medici coat of arms. One of the prominent pieces inside is the tomb of the holy Roman Emperor Henry VII together with that of St. Ranieri the patron saint of Pisa. The pulpit is outstanding; made using a medieval style, it is the work of Nicolo Pisano’s son Giovanni.
We saw ancient inscriptions of those buried in the cemetery, and even some ancient graffiti. Interesting, I did not know before then that graffiti is an art of the ancients.
