We took the college group camping at Cheaha...just overnight, since I am not a camper. Cheaha Mountain is the highest elevation in Alabama and the southern-most mountian in the Appalacian chain. It is a nice place to hike, look at the scenery, and enjoy the outdoors, particulary in the fall season! Primitive camping (tents) is very cheap; around $15 per site! Most sites have a picnic table, but water spigots and bath houses are not always close by! There are RV sections that each site has their own water and electricity hook ups, but these are more expensive.

The upper primitive camping ground is better than the lower primitive camping ground. The upper is a short walk to the onservation tower, while the lower is all the way at the bottom of the mountain by the little lake. Much better, and usually cooler, on top of the mountain!

There is also a restaurant and lodge on the ground that offer fabulous views! Small church and civic groups hold conferences and retreats here too!
