This is a modern, recently built campground. The site is entirely flat and has lush landscaping and lawns. You can see Cerro Chalcatzingo and Cerro Delgado from the campground. There are several palapas with cooking grills. There are two very well maintained small swimming pools. There is a modern bath house with showers and toilets. A restaurant/bar is present but was not operating during my visit. They will rent you a tent if you need one. I did not get the price for tent rentals. Camping rates are 80 pesos per person per night and 40 pesos per day use per person. This campground is easy walking distance to the community museum that is just before the archaeological ruin. There are separate fees for the museum and ruin. The campground is also a short walk to the village of Chalcatzingo. There is a historic colonial church on the town square. The square is large for the size of the town and has a number a benches with great shade trees. There are several small stores were you could find the basics in food, beer and water. I saw two stores set up as butcher shops but neither were open. I guess that they are open after they have slaughter something. So when you see the meat hanging that is time when you should be buying. There is a group of concerned American and Canadian citizens in town that are attempting to teach the local population some methods to supplement there income. Apparently there has a been a conflict over the surfical water supply. The group that controls the water is not sharing it with all the farmers. Farmers without that water supply are now having to go to dry farming methods. Basically that means you plant drought resistant crops and species and hope for the best. It usually meant just one crop per year and a very small yield. One crop and smaller yield equals much less money!
