Camp Nelson Vacation Guide

Camp Nelson is a small mountain community in the Sequoia National Forest, nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains about 16 miles above Springville, California. The community gets its name from John M Nelson, who filed for homestead here in 1886 with his son Donald and daughter Emma. They initially qualified the homestead by commercially producing apples and pears.
Not long after qualifying his homestead, Nelson, realized that the area would make a great resort for families escaping the summer heat of the valley below. He soon built a hotel and pack station, thus establishing Camp Nelson as a major recreational jumping-off place for Sequoia National Forest.
This beautiful area in California offers trout fishing, camping and beautiful scenery, including some groves of giant Sequoia trees. There is a nice campground at Belknap with sites amongst the giant Sequoias, right on the Tule River and Belknap Creek.
