See Camden, Alabama and Wilcox County May 03, 2017
Camden is a friendly little town of almost 2000 (down 13% since 2000) located along Alabama Highway 10 in Wilcox County in South Central Alabama. Camden was established prior to 1825 as Barboursville but was renamed Camden in 1841, by Dr. John D. Caldwell in honor of his hometown of Camden, South Carolina. Canton Bend was the first county seat of Wilcox County but the county seat moved to what is now Camden in 1833. Wilcox County was named for Joseph M. Wilcox a soldier killed in Alabama during the Creek War. Famous baseball player Henry "Hank" Aaron was born here but raised in Mobile. Camden was also home to a former Alabama Governor and Senator Jeff Sessions. The Wilcox County Courthouse was completed in 1857 using the Greek revival style of architecture and replaced an earlier wooden structure. The courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Camden has a couple of nice memorials dedicated to the veterans who served in the nation's military during war and peace and a special one dedicated to Enoch H. Cook, who served in the War Between the States and had more sons (10) and grandsons (2) who served in that war than any other man on either side. Four of his sons and both grandsons were killed during their service. I feel it is important to remember the sacrifices made by our veterans and their contributions to our freedom and our way of life
