Best Hostel I Ever Stayed At Feb 10, 2015
This was the first time i had stayed at a YHA hostel and i must admit i was very impressed with my stay with them! Even before i got there they were impressing me. A couple of days before i was due to arrive i received an email from them with some suggestions of things to do in Cambridge. It was a nice touch!
The location of the hostel is great. They are right by the station so you can get there easy after arriving and only about 10/15 minute walk from the City Centre. Perfect! I was very happy with this location.
The staff were very friendly here. I had a very warm welcome from the moment i stepped through the door. There was always someone around with helpful tips on ways to enjoy the city. Always what you want when visiting a new city.
The room i was very impressed with. The rooms were clean, the beds had individual light and plug socket which i thought was a nice touch. They also had individual lockers for each person. It's like YHA understand what backpackers really want.
The kitchen was one of the nicest i've ever seen. It was big, had 3 ovens, 3 sinks, 2 fridges and a couple of microwaves. But what i really liked is that they had a shelf labelled as "free food" because we all know sometimes it's easier to leave things behind.
The socials areas here are also really good. There's a nice lounge with a TV, couches and computer. And as well as this in the front they have a bar / cafe with plenty of seats. The food here is actually good. I wish i had tried the breakfast! Though not included, at £4.99, it's a good price! And the banana cake i had was amazing! (they do tea & cake for £3)
One thing that was different here to other hostels was the security. The hostel was split up so that if you weren't staying in one of the back rooms you couldn't get through the door. It's good to feel safe when travelling.
The shower / toilet facilities here were good. In our area there were 3 toilets and 1 shower. It doesn't sound like a lot but there were never queues. The shower was pretty good. There was the quite normal problem of choosing between hot water and pressure but this is usual so never a problem. If i'm nitpicking a shelf in the shower room would have been nice but at least there were hooks.
Overall i was really impressed with my stay here. This was my first stay at YHA but it certainly won't be my last!

Great cafe and staff Nov 19, 2011
Avoid arriving in Cambridge after dark if you can, or at least make sure you already have a map and/or clear directions to find your own way around. Note that there's no desk or information station (or toilets) where the coach drops you off.
The staff are lovely, and there's a great cafe serving really good food. I had the 5 pound cooked breakfast and was impressed (and filled for the day).
The room was clean and comfortable, all up to standard.
There's a nice pub just up the road where you can have a drink, and plenty of places to choose from to get food along Mill Road - or make your way into the town centre.
