My last day in Siem Reap would find me visiting a few other humanitarian projects. Mr Lee first took me to visit the Artisans D'Angkor Silk Training Farm which is about 20 minutes out of the town. Here, this organisation assists a number of disadvantaged young people and teaches them cr…

Phnom Penh. I like this city a lot. Here you see a country trying hard to become a better place to live in, without giving up its identity. Nevertheless, especially when you take a look in the outskirts, you also see there is still a long way to go. What strikes me most is the optimistic, humourist…

Free at last! And where do I go? Another South East Asian country…Cambodia. Ryan, me, and my 20 year old brother (spring break was never like this for me). I finished Peace Corps on March 27, spent a few days hanging out with my friends in Bangkok and then we flew to Siem …

So as hitching was rather easy in Thailand, it only took us a couple of days to reach the Cambodian border town of O'Smach.
We reached our destination pretty late in the afternoon, but just early enough to cross immigration without any problems. Well, let me take that back.&nb…

We are on our 2nd day of our Angkor Wat adventures. Dang, it is humid & hot in here. Arty & I are sweating like little piglets. The good thing about it is I'm losing the weight.
People in here are still very poor. In the gueshouse t…

After a leisurly breakfast we found a tuk-tuk man and agreed a price for a day at the markets. About 5 minutes into our journey as we were travelling down the road along the riverside a motorbike came alongside the tuk-tuk and whisked Nicola's bag away. The speed at which it happened wa…

As anyone who has travelled around Camdia probably knows, if a person wants to go from Siem Reap back into Thailand they come across what the Lonely Planet describes as "The Boulevard Of Broken Backsides". The road from Siem Reap to the border is supposed to be horrific, and i even heard that from …

between Thailand and Cambodia is not a nice place. If hell turns out to exist, it will be this place.
Getting to Aranya Prathet, the nearest town to Poi Pet, was a nightmare. Our minibus driver tried to scam us, firstly about the cost of a visa (1800 baht to us, $20 to everyone according to our gu…

So after 8 hours on a bus made it to Siem Reap.
The border crossing was interesting, people hurrying all over the place. Traffic everywhere as usual. My thai visa has continued to confuse people - I am never being organised again!
Siem Reap is the town built around the Angkor Wat temple complex. …

Me. My backpack. A 1 way ticket. 3.5 months. No real plan. Malaysia, Nepal, India, Tibet, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Burma. Amazing.
(Dates are all messed up, I'll sort this out later - and some actual blogging will eventually appear!)

Arriving in the capital city of Cambodia without preparation came as a bit of a shock, but one I think we dealt with pretty well.
After finding some pretty decent accommodation on the lake front, we spent our first day getting our bearings in a city that could match Bangkok for heat, commotio…
