Callejon del Beso Guanajuato Reviews
The site of a Romeo and Juliet kind of story May 03, 2011
Well, I recommend this place because it's one of the most famous sites in the city of Guanajuato. It's the "Callejón del Beso" (Kiss Alleyway), a very narrow alley (about 4 ft. wide) which was the site of a Romeo and Juliet kind-of story, that you will surely find someone to tell you about while over there.
If you want to know already, keep reading the following lines. It has been told, that a young couple from Guanajuato saw their love interrupted because their families were enemies. Ana was the daughter of rich spaniards and Carlos was a poor miner living in the house at the left of the alley.
The couple met secretly sitting each one on their balcony, and they spent all of their nights chatting, until one night, Ana's father discovered them while kissing from balcony to balcony. He made threats to kill her if he would find them again, but they kept on dating, until one sad night, after surprising them again, the father took a knife and killed his daughter in front of her lover, and all the boy could do was hold her hand until she died. He later commit suicide by jumping off from the mine. Ana's father went insane.
It is said that if you visit the place with your loved one you must kiss otherwise you will be unhappy for 7 years. On the other hand, if you kiss, then you will be lucky and happy for 7 years.
One of the must-see places in Guanajuato.
