If you like Space, you'll love this! Apr 25, 2013
We had watched with amazement when the shuttle Endeavor was retired from service and made its way across the country and then from the airport in Los Angeles to the Exposition Park where it would be on permanent display. And getting a chance to actually visit the site in person was a thrill. There is a ten dollar parking charge, which I felt was a little over priced, but the entry to see the Endeavor was only two dollars per person, which I felt was cheap. The space center has several display areas and I understand that those exhibits are changed every once in awhile. There is also an IMAX theatre, which we did not pay to see. One of the first things we did see was the wheels and tires taken off of the Endeavor. Also they had a display of the toilet system as it is on the craft. It reminded me of the Big Bang Episode where Howard discovered a flaw in his design and they tried to fix the error before something went wrong in space. There was also a cooking facility and a display of some of the small things that had been taken into space by the astronauts and a control panel as it would have looked at NASA for the blast offs and even a couple of small units you could get in to act as a simulator. We didn’t try those. Then there was about a ten minute film of the Endeavor on the top of a 747 as it landed in Los Angeles, and then the job of getting it from LAX to the specially built building in Exposition Park. It was a truly fascinating short film. Then it was downstairs and across to the special building where the shuttle is housed. Your jaw drops as you walk in the door. There in front of you is the Endeavor. You can watch any one of several films around the facility, and view several other displays and things such as one of the engines. There is also a shop selling souvenirs and models. If you are at all interested in space or the shuttle program, this is a very highly recommended place to visit.
