Day 4 - snowOne of my friends is leaving for Japan today. We all went to Wendy's to eat SALAD!!! We love salad!!  (Ok, everytime I come to either Canada or US, I don't have chance to eat salad which is weird for me becuase I eat salad pretty much everyday at home. My dad has a garden and he makes some veges there :)  So yeah, I wanted to eat salad SO BAD!!!!!)But it was 20 minutes before it opens so we went to dollar shop til 10am. We had late breakfast but not brunch yet. We got to...

Well the big day has arrived.  Where did all of the time go?  It snowed with a vengence yesterday so the place is buried in about 6 inches of snow.  A fitting scene for our departure I suppose.  No doubt,  this being Calgary it will be 15 or 20 above by the weekend.  This is the part of travel that is the best and the worst.  You're very excited about going but the thought of a long marathon of plane travel these days doesn't exactly fill ...

Well, I just got off the phone with my friend Jenny who decided on the fly to book a trip to Belize...at first I cursed her for being a Teacher and having the Summer off to plan trips on the fly, then I cursed her for going there without me since we had traveled there together last New Years, followed by me cursing her for reminding me she did ask me and I had no holidays left...FINALLY I cursed her for making me take care of her dogs while she is away...the last curse wasn't as lou...

I have been spending a lot of time lately trying to decide my next trip. I want to plan a longer trip this time as my 6 weeks in Europe in the spring just wasn’t enough for me. I’ve been considering maybe Asia this time around or possibly Australia but I’m finding it really hard to actually choose a place and get planning. I figure I want to travel for atleast 2 months in the spring but I guess that will depend on whether I find a travel buddy or whether I travel alone.   Here’...

This morning the alarm went off way too early, ringing at 6am. By 6:30 we were on the subway on our way to the airport. I had booked mom's flight through Areoplan, and it had really bad connections. The first flight at 1:30 (instead of my 10:30am flight) with a 6 hour layover in Montreal, getting her in at 11:30pm. We went to the booking agent and for $50 got her flight changed so she was on my flight and got into Halifax at 4:30pm. Much better and definitely worth the change fee! Mom had gi...

Disclaimer: These pictures do no justice to the beauty of the Rockies. It all started in downtown Calgary around midday. Picking up the hire car on 6th Ave, I became Chief Navigator to Nick, a job I didnt take lightly, especially as it was to be the first time that Nick had driven an automatic, let alone on the wrong side of the road.An hour later and we had just about managed to negotiate our way out of Calgary and onto the highway Banff bound. Once we hit Banff we parked up to have a mooch a...

Ok... I hate it when you type a bunch of stuff on here only to have it erased when you try and post it... thanks, travbuddy website. Anyway, as I mentioned in my last journal entry, Canada is the second half of my trip reserved for unlimited amounts of debauchery.  So, it would suffice to say that keeping record of my exploits during this time was the furthest thing on my mind... nor would I actually care to.  Let's just say that Canada is an amazing place with the largest amount o...

The trip started a little on the wrong foot when the Emirates flight departing Dubai on the morning of 5th July was delayed by two hours due to a technical fault. I was left with just 20 mins upon arrival in London Heathrow to catch my connecting Air Canada flight to Calgary. I think I clocked the fastest run in my life with the dash out of the plane through Heathrow Terminal 3, jumping the queue at the security check and making it on the Air Canada flight just in the nick of time. &nb...
