Better atmosphere than food Jan 31, 2016
S38°22.993' E142°14.037' Victoria's oldest continuously licensed pub (1844), aka the Stump, has a bar and restaurant with pub grub. Behind Caledonia Inn Hotel is a real motel. The reason this pub is called "hotel" dates back to the days that licenses only allowed pubs to provide alcohol to the traveling public. The presence of a few rooms (which might never be used) gave some impression that the rules being followed.

In December 2015, we ordered fettuccine pasta with chilli & garlic marinated prawns, roast capsicum, spinach & cherry tomato for AUS$19,50. The prawns were big. The taste was okay.

The fish of the day dish was fried Barramundi fish with chips AUS$26. Additional salad bar was limited in salads. The fish was well prepared, but lacked as so many white fish distinctive taste. Could easily be flake or flat head tail.

The pub grub filled our stomachs rather than excited our taste buds. Nothing was special, outside this authentic pub-crawl interior. The service was restricted to Aussie self-service. Special recommendations for the Guinness beer because of the Port Fairy Folk Festival on Labour Day long weekend in March.
