Brussels, Belgium -› Antwerp, Belgium -› …
So after hitching to Calais from Brussels and having to spend the night sleeping on the floor at the ferry terminal, I get ready to catch the first boat in the morning to Dover and what do I know, rather than just walking through as is the normal immigration procedure in my experience, I end up bei…

Brussels, Belgium -› Gent, Belgium -› …
I have now been working more than 3 years in the lovely city of Brussels and I have the last 18 months had the fortune of living here full time.
One of the first things I have become to understand is why expats don't want to leave again.
When I arrived I had a goal of walking the streets of Brussels and driving the roads of Belgium. One of my goals here is to visit all large cities in Belgium and afterwards know a lot about Belgium.

As mentioned, Calais is more or less a ghost town. It's a port city, and a travel hub, but that isn't as exciting as it sounds. You don't get an overwhelming sense of France like you do in, say, Paris, but if you're not expecting much it can be a pleasant place to spend a day. Unfortunately for us,…

Versailles is quite close so we are there in no time at all. For once parking is easy in the huge cobbled square in front of the palace. We choose our passes for the places we want to visit in the palace and gardens and begin the tour. An audio tour seems to be the best bet as&nbs…

10:58 AM (French Time): The Eurostar we are on is hurtling through the French countryside, having just emerged from the Chunnel. 150 mph? I don’t know – I’m too lazy to fetch my GPS to find out. But it’s fast. Except for the red-roofed houses scattered everywhere, the rolling hills and dens…

Dover, England, UK -› Paris, France -› …
A few friends and I decided to do something different for New Years and spend it in Paris- well we stayed in Saint Denis (Boo) for cheapness but used the metro to get around everyday. It was the best New Years ever, full of drunken fun! Well apart from my friend getting her purse stolen on the metro!

Calais isn't really much of a place. It's a port town, and has been for it's entire history. It shows. Fortunately, there isn't a great deal of reason to hang around town, unless you're particularly keen on cheap wine. We did pick up a fantastic 1kg bottle of Dijon mustard - for 70 pence. She ain't…

After conquering the rough English Channel we finally made it to France. We had to go through customs where we got our passports stamped. I was pretty excited about this because the last time I came to France I never got a stamp. I said "au revoir" to the customs guy and loaded back onto the bus. W…
