Simple, delicious chicken soto soup Sep 06, 2016
I am a loyal customer of Soto Ayam Ambengan Cak-Di SCBD branch. Soto Ayam (Chicken Soto) is a speciality dish of East Java.
Different from the typical soto, Cak-Di's soto incorporates a prawn base (an optional ingredient) making the taste exceptional. There are 2 main types of soto served at this restaurant:
-Regular Chicken Soto (chicken meat only) and
-Complete Chicken Soto (chicken meat + offal).
Half an egg and glass noodles are included in both options.
A bowl of rice is an additional IDR 6,000 and half a bowl of rice is an additional IDR 4,000.
I ordered the Regular Chicken Soto (IDR 23,000) + a bowl of rice. No drink - I love the soup so much that I don't want to ruin my appetite with sweet drinks. One can request for extra soup without additional charge.
The soto is served using a scoop from a big aluminium container that sits on top of an open stove. As everything is already cooked, service is fast, typically within 10 minutes even when it is busy.
The restaurant is simple with ceiling fans, wooden tables and plastic stools. They take orders using carbon papers which are then filed in a wooden box. Bills are calculated by hand and their revenues are temporarily stored in a wooden chest. They accept cash only.
This restaurant is particularly busy between noon - 12:40pm and there is usually a queue. However, the crowd is usually gone by 12:50pm as most people linger for around 15 minutes. Closing time isn't definite because they close when they sell out (which tends to be accomplished around 3pm everyday). They are closed for one month during the fasting period.
