Cajamarca is the place where famous ransom in gold and silver was paid by last Inca emperor to Francisco Pizarro and his conquistadors. Ransom room is the only building left from Inca period due to effective Spanish destruction, but there are many Spanish churches all over the town. It is where after execution of second Inca emperor Atahualpa, mighty empire seized to exist.
Other attractions include Incas baths, aqueduct, Inca road, Combe Mayo rock formations and many other.
City is high in the mountains (2700m) but has a micro-climate that makes it very pleasant to live in. Transportation is well organized, with many buses going in all directions and international airport serving Lima, Iquitos, Cuzco and Arequipa.
